ApeCoin (APE) biggest weekly gainer, as Bored Apes film plans revealed
16:08, 14 April 2022
ApeCoin (APE) added 15% over the last seven days and topped the table of best weekly performers among the 50 biggest digital coins, data from CoinMarketCap.com shows.
APE has been rising since the beginning of the week, when Coinbase (COIN), one of the world's biggest cryptocurrency exchanges, announced it was producing a film series featuring BAYC and ApeCoin communities.
APE was launched last month as a governance and utility token for the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC). The coin quickly shot up to become one of the Top 40 biggest cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation.
BAYC non-fungible tokens (NFTs) holders were invited to audition for a bit in the first film from the series, dubbed “The Degen Trilogy”. Coinbase will reward the successful candidate with $10,000 licence fee in APE or BTC.
Some cautioned BAYC NFT holders to weigh conditions of the deal, however: “TO ALL BORED APES, THIS IS IMPORTANT. Please read the licence terms of Coinbase really carefully. Understand what you are getting in return for what you will give away.
“You are giving up PERPETUAL IP RIGHTS of your Ape for $10,000 worth of $APE or $BTC. Weigh your options," a Twitter account under Twitter handle "Dippudo" wrote.
MAYC holders will get a chance to audition for a role in the next film from the series.

The film announcement comes three weeks after an American rapper Snoop Dogg released BAYC-themed mix tape which could be bought only with APE.
The second-best weekly performer, NEAR, a native token of Near Protocol, was up 10% over the same period. Meanwhile, bitcoin (BTC) was down by 7% week-on-week, and ether (ETH) lost 5% in that time.
