International Cricket Council creates digital collectibles

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed its plans to tap into the non-fungible token (NFT) market by teaming up with Faze Technologies to create digital collectables that fans can buy.
In a press release on its website, the ICC said the NFTs, which can be interpreted as something uniquely digital like a drawing, will portray greatest moments from ICC events.
The cricket world’s governing body said the collectables will be taken from its deep historical archive and placed on to the flow blockchain.
How the platform will work
The ICC press release said the new experience will allow fans to collect NFTs of “some of the most talked about shots, catches, and wickets from ICC events”.
Finn Bradshaw, ICC head of digital, commented on the business development:
“Cricket has an outstanding track record of using technology to connect fans with our sport and this is our next evolution, from trading cards to video NFTs where fans can own their favourite plays from ICC events.”
On the platform where fans will be able to buy the NFTs, there are options to browse and collect items, plus trade the collectables with a community of fans. In addition, fans will have opportunities to use their digital collectibles in games and applications to earn rewards.

Building the metaverse
Anshum Bhambri, chief executive of Faze Technologies, also commented on the partnership:
“Faze is building the metaverse for cricket,” the CEO stated. “We are in a unique position to combine NFTs, gaming and money-can't-buy experiences to create a platform for cricket aficionados to collect, use, play, and interact with cricket through NFTs.
“We can’t wait to give more than 1 billion cricket lovers the opportunity to own the game that means so much to them, and to engage with cricket in a whole new way,” he added.
