The US Tech 100 is a US stock market index which tracks the performance of the top 100 blue-chip companies listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
Reviewed every quarter, the index comprises non-financial companies and arranges them with market capitalisation as a key criteria, meaning the most capitalised stocks are placed higher in the list. Inclusion is also dependent on liquidity.
As a closely-followed index, the US Tech 100 is often seen as a proxy for US stock market health and the domestic economy.
Some of the largest companies included in the US Tech 100 index at the time of writing are Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT) and Nvidia (NVDA). Given their size, these companies retain top index spots, but lesser-capitalised companies are more likely to change position in the index, or even drop out to be replaced by new stocks that have become sufficiently capitalised to join.
