The Hong Kong 50
The Hong Kong 50 is a tradeable CFD index market with Capital.com.
The Hong Kong 50 Index – also known as the HSI – includes 82 (as of April 2024) of the largest and most liquid stocks listed on the Main Board of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. It’s the most widely quoted gauge of the Hong Kong stock market.
Much like the S&P 500, the Hong Kong 50 Index is a market-capitalisation-weighted index, meaning companies with larger market caps have a more significant influence on the index’s overall performance.
The HSI is reviewed quarterly to ensure it accurately represents the market by assessing the sector balance and liquidity of its constituents – and 8% capping is applied to avoid any single stock dominating the index.
The Hong Kong 50 Index covers diverse sectors including finance, IT, energy, real estate, telecommunication and more, making it a primary indicator of the Hong Kong stock market’s overall health.
Some of the major companies in the Hong Kong 50 Index include HSBC Holdings (0005), Alibaba (9988), Tencent Holdings (0700), AIA Group (1299) and China Construction Bank Corporation (0939).
