Software giant Microsoft was awarded a US patent on Thursday for what the company describes as a “ledger-independent token service,” software that can help blockchain developers make more efficient products.
According to the patent, the application allows users to access one or more “token templates” which allow developers to create tokens much quicker.
Over the past 24 hours, share prices of Bitcoin increased over 3.4% and Ethereum was up more than 4.6%.
Human mining
The ledger service is not Microsoft’s first foray into cryptocurrency mining. Microsoft has also patented a cryptocurrency mining process that gamifies traditional models.
Back in March, the company patented a mining system that detects certain activities – such as time spent watching television – and uses the data to solve computational problems to mine cryptocurrencies.

Problem solver
The software can detect a range of features from search engine use to time spent reading ads, giving people the ability to solve mining problems almost unconsciously.
The company said in its patent application that the process would save energy used during the “massive computation work required by some conventional cryptocurrency systems.”
