Microvision, Inc. Company profile
MicroVision Inc. (MVIS) specialises in the development of automotive LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) scanners which are used in the development of autonomous vehicles. The firm was established in 1993 and is headquartered in Washington.
The company calls itself a “pioneer” in micro-electrical mechanical systems (MEMS) based laser beam scanning technology which the firm has been developing since 1997.
In addition to providing solutions for automotive LiDAR sensors, the firm also works on augmented reality (AR) microdisplay engines and head-mounted displays, interactive display modules used in smart speakers and other technologies and consumer LiDAR components used in smart home systems.
The firm is also proud of its “advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS)” which looks into how accurately vehicle’s sensors analyse the world around them.
Over the years MicroVision has cooperated with a number of global tech giants such as SHARP (6753), Microsoft (MSFT) and SONY (SNE).
In 1998, the company signed a contract with the US military to build helmet-mounted and head-worn displays that would replace desktop versions at the US Army Battle Command Battle Lab tactical operations centre and has since cooperated with the US Department of Defence.
The firm is also known as the creator of PicoP scanning technology, a very small sensing and displaying solution based on its laser beam scanning methodology, which is currently used in three-dimensional (3D) sensing, interactive displays and project displays.
The company was listed on NASDAQ in 1996 under the ticker symbol MVIS.
