What is the Taiwan Stock Exchange?

TWSE, or the Taiwan Stock Exchange, is a private financial institution in Taipei, Taiwan. It was founded in 1961 and is one of two stock exchanges in Taiwan, the other being GreTai Securities Market.

TWSE is the primary stock exchange in Taiwan, and also offers investment opportunities for foreign investors. You'll know of TWSE if you invest in Asia Pacific markets.

Its Taiwan 50 Index was co-compiled with international index operator FTSE. In 2014, it launched the Formosa Index, giving broad measurement of the Taiwanese market.

The exchange is expanding into ETFs and in December 2016 launched the first ETF tracking a leading U.S. volatility futures index. 9% of total trading on the exchange is now through ETFs.
