What is the SET50 Index?

SET50 Index

The SET50 Index is a stock market index which gives investors a narrow benchmark of investment in the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The top 50 companies ranked by average daily market capitalisation constitute the index. These 50 stocks also appear in the broader SET100 Index.

Where have you heard about the SET50 Index?

Your broker can give you information about investing in foreign companies. Thailand is an emerging market and is known for its services, financials and resources sectors. The narrower SET50 Index is the better-known benchmark and gives you a more focused exposure to the Thai market than the broader SET100 Index.

What you need to know about the SET50 Index.

The World Bank describes Thailand as ‘one of the great development success stories’. Smart economic policies put in place in the 1980s saw multi-year GDP growth of between 5 and 13 percent. However, since the military seized power in 2014, that growth has slowed to 3 percent or lower and it now lags behind other Southeast Asian economies. Both the SET50 Index and SET100 Index give the investor exposure to the Thai market, with the SET50 being the narrower measure. You can easily invest in the SET50 using the ThaiDEX SET50 ETF, traded on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
