In 2006 Switzerland's Department of Economic Affairs confiscated over Sfr269 million from a Swiss bank account of Motana Management, along with personal funds belonging to Al-Dulimi, and transferred the money to the Development Fund for Iraq. Switzerland argued that it was merely applying Security Council resolutions, but Al-Dulimi took his case to the European Court of Human Rights. In June 2016 the court ruled that Switzerland had violated the European Convention on Human Rights in the way it confiscated his assets.
