Qualcomm Company profile

Qualcomm (QCOM) is a wireless technology company engaged in the development, launch and expansion of 5G. The company was behind the development and commercialisation of a radio system called Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) for the mobile phone network. CDMA was used in 2G and 3G mobile phones. 

The company has three business segments: licensing business Qualcomm Technologies Licensing (QTL), Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT), and Qualcomm Strategic Initiatives (QSI). 

QTL grants licences for portions of the company's intellectual property portfolio, including certain patent rights in manufacturing, selling or using specific wireless products.

QCT develops and supplies integrated circuits and system software based on 3G, 4G, 5G and other technologies for use in a wide range of products, including mobile devices, wireless networks and consumer electronic devices.

QSI invests in early-stage companies within various industries and applications, including digital healthcare, artificial intelligence and networks.

It offers Bluetooth, Radio Frequency (RF) modem systems, Wi-Fi, and Processors products using 5G and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Qualcomm products are used in a range of communication applications, including in smartphones, laptops, audio and intelligent city connectivity solutions. 

Engineer Irwin Jacobs founded the San Diego, California-based company in July 1985. Before Qualcomm, Jacobs taught engineering at the University of California San Diego and founded the consulting company Linkabit Corp. He founded Qualcomm with six Linkabit colleagues. 

Qualcomm became a public company in 1991. It’s stock is listed on the Nasdaq under the symbol QCOM.
