It acquired Spyder Instruments the following year, and completed its initial public offering in 2000. The acquisition of Solexa Inc followed in 2007, and Epicentre Biotechnologies was acquired in 2011. Roche made an unsolicited bid to buy Illumina for around $5.7 billion in 2012, but both this and a subsequent higher offer were rejected. In 2015, Illumina spun off the blood testing company Grail.
