Coursera is an US-based international education tech company, offering online courses, degrees and certifications from the world’s top universities and companies in various subjects.

Founded in 2012 by computer science professors from Stanford University, Daphne Koller and Andrew Ng, Coursera collaborates with over 200 universities and top companies providing access to 4,600 courses and more than two dozen university degree programmes.

Demand for online learning platforms surged drastically during the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. Offering an attractive alternative to the traditional “going to college” routine, Coursera became the platform of choice for people of different backgrounds and ages, willing to change their career and boost their professional skills.

Coursera has attracted 77 million registered learners, which makes it one of the top e-learning resources worldwide. In 2021, it partnered with more than 330 government institutions in 70 countries within the framework of the Coursera Workforce Recovery Initiative, which helps unemployed workers get free access to thousands of educational courses.

Coursera stock floated on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on March 31, 2021 under the ticker symbol COUR. With Capital.com you can access the latest Coursera share price in real-time.

Coursera stock started trading at $39 a piece, which is higher than its pre-IPO pricing of $33 per share. The company closed up its Wall Street debut with the Coursera stock price trading 36 per cent up at $45 per share, which gave it a market capitalisation of $5.9 billion.

According to the company’s IPO prospectus, the California-based ed-tech company experienced a 59 per cent revenue growth year over year, mostly driven by the pandemic-related boom in online education. For the fiscal year ended December 31, Coursera reported $294 million in total revenue, compared to $184 million gained in 2019. Coursera also reported a loss of $67 million in 2020, which is 42 per cent higher than the loss of $47 million in 2019.

Meanwhile, over 30.2 million new learners joined Coursera in 2020, which is an impressive 65 per cent year-to-year growth from 46.6 million learners, registered a year earlier.

The education technology market growth serves as a strong argument, supporting a bullish Coursera stock price forecast. Coronavirus boosted the age of e-learning to a new level, with Coursera playing a big role in the growing digital learning market, which is expected to reach $1 trillion by 2027.
