He was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1976 and studied at Seattle University. In 1999, he set up the website Amvona, which sold photography accessories. The site sold over one million products between 1999 and 2000, making it one of the most visited photography-related sites. Amvona discontinued its e-commerce business in 2010 and Lemelson went on to establish Lemelson Capital Management in 2012. He's also written extensively about investment-related products, including mortgage-backed securities. In 2012, Lemelson founded The Lantern Foundation, a non-profit foundation which supports religious, charitable and educational causes.
