BM&F Bovespa was created in 2008 after a merger between the São Paulo Stock Exchange (Bovespa) and the Brazilian Mercantile and Futures Exchange (BM&F). At the time, this merger created the world's second largest stock exchange.
The Brazilian stock exchange regulates transactions in the Brazilian capital markets, including the trading of equities, corporate and government bonds, commodities and foreign exchange.
It has a commercial agreement with Chicago's CME Group. Each stock exchange owns a 5% stake of the other and the partnership allows for cross listing of products.
BM&F Bovespa is a founding member of the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges initiative. As well as its headquarters in São Paulo, BM&F Bovespa has international offices in London, New York and Shanghai.
