Pinduoduo Inc. Company profile

Founded in 2015, Pinduoduo is headquartered in Shanghai, China. The agriculture-focused technology platform was formerly known as Walnut Street Group Holding Limited. In July 2018, it was renamed Pinduoduo. 

Through its consumer to manufacturer (C2M) business model, the company helps facilitate direct sales between small-scale farmers and consumers. Through its expertise in consumer preferences and logistics, it helps aggregate large volume demand for agricultural produce. 

Pinduoduo is also invested in enhancing the manufacturing of agricultural products. It is involved in different aspects of food production, ranging from smart farming to food safety and agricultural logistics. 

On 26 April 2022, Pinduoduo announced a collaboration with Wageningen University & Research (WUR) in the Netherlands to carry out a study on improving the quality of greenhouse-grown tomatoes. The study aims to find sustainable avenues to produce better-quality tomatoes across the year.

Pinduoduo connected over 16 million farmers to 868.7 million buyers across China in 2021, through initiatives such as agriculture-focused shopping festivals. The company partnered with China Central Television to enable live streaming events that showed different pockets of agricultural regions in the country. As a result, the user-focused agricultural platform witnessed a year-on-year increase of 59% in orders received in 2021.
