Ford Motor Co. (F) designs and manufactures various cars, trucks, electrified and sports utility vehicles marketed under brand names such as Ford, Ford-Lincoln and Lincoln. An American international automaker created by Henry Ford also owns Brasilian SUV producer Troller, holds a 32 per cent stake in Jingling Motors and an 8 per cent stake in the UK’s Aston Martin.
Ford Motors is the second-largest US automaker and the fifth-largest in the world behind international giants such as Toyota, Hyundai-Kia, Volkswagen group and General Motors.
Founded in 1903 (117 years ago), the company operates in two sectors: automotive and financial services. The first division includes five geographically-based segments: North America, South America, Europe, Middle East & Africa and Asia Pacific. The financial services division comprises two segments: Ford Credit and Other Financial Services.
According to the most recent statistics, the North American segment remains the most profitable, with almost 2.8 million units sold in the region in 2019.
The company has more than 70 plants globally. Additionally, it provides financing, leasing, insurance and other services related to vehicles.
The Ford Motor stock floated on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in 1956, which was one of the largest initial public offerings in American history of that time. The newly public company immediately entered the list of Fortune 500 companies at number 3.
Since then, the F share price has been listed and traded on the NYSE and is included in the S&P 100 and the S&P 500 stock market indices.
So far in 2020, the Ford stock quote is driven by better than anticipated Q2 operating results, as the company has reported net income of $1.1 billion and more than $39 billion in cash.
Jim Hackett, Ford Motor president and CEO, commented on the company’s performance: “I could not be prouder of the Ford team’s optimism and effectiveness as we manage through this pandemic. We delivered a strong Q2 while keeping each other safe, caring for customers and neighbours, and assuring tomorrow.”
