Clean Energy Fuels Corp. Company profile

Clean Energy Fuels Corp (CLNE) is a renewable energy company. The firm produces and distributes a transportation fuel it has pioneered called renewable natural gas or RNG, which is made from organic waste. According to the company, it captures methane produced from livestock manure and landfills, and turns this harmful greenhouse gas into a clean fuel, RNG. The company also offers liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG).

Clean Energy Fuels Corp is headquartered in Newport Beach, California, and is listed on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange under the ticker ‘CLNE’. The firm was founded in 1988 by T Boone Pickens under the company name Mesa Petroleum and was later renamed Pickens Fuel Corp. In 2001, BC Gas purchased a majority stake in Pickens Fuel Corp and changed its name to Clean Energy Fuels Corp. The company went public in 2007.

Clean Energy Fuels Corp partners with customers to help them transition to RNG fuelling. It does this through building private and public stations serving all forms of RNG, including CNG and LNG or a combination of both. It also provides station operation and support services; facility modifications, testing and inspection services; bulk LNG and virtual pipeline services; as well as financing and training expertise to help its customers make the operational transition to cleaner fuels.

The company has undertaken joint ventures with companies including TotalEnergies (TTEF) and BP (BP) that are striving to reduce their emissions, as well as partnering with other US-based companies to transform transportation fuel use, specifically for long-haul trucking.

The company’s Zero Now programme lets customers lease or purchase heavy-duty and medium-duty natural gas fleets. Clean Energy Fuels’ unit NG Advantage provides CNG delivery services to utility, power plant, manufacturing facility and institutions to help eliminate the need for onsite storage.

Andrew Littlefair is the president and chief executive of the company. Stephen Scully is the chairman of its board.
