Clinical Laserthermia Systems AB (publ) ("CLS"), together with ClearPoint Neuro Inc., is participating as an industry partner in a five-year research collaboration led by Dartmouth Health and supported by the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI). The collaboration aims to advance MR-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) for patients with spinal metastases.

The five-year $2.98 million competitively awarded NCI R01 program led by Dartmouth Health to advance MR-guided laser therapy for spinal metastases¹, in which CLS is an industry partner, progresses from laboratory and pre-clinical validation toward clinical evaluation, using the ClearPoint Prism Neuro Laser Therapy System.

CLS contributes its neuro laser therapy technology and expertise, building on its experiences from MR-guided LITT procedures in the brain. The program represents an opportunity to further evaluate and expand CLS technology in a spinal application, complementing its established use in brain procedures.

"We are pleased to contribute to a research program bringing together leading clinical and industrial expertise in the advancement of minimally invasive LITT for treatment of patients with spinal metastases. This collaboration represents an important step in further exploring the potential of our neuro laser therapy technology," comments Dan J. Mogren, CEO of CLS.

The spine is one of the most common sites of metastases. Conventional surgical treatment, often combined with radiation therapy, can be associated with prolonged hospitalization, blood loss, postoperative pain, wound complications, and interruptions to systemic therapy or anticoagulation. These challenges have driven interest in less invasive surgical approaches, such as LITT.

1Research reported in this press release is supported by the National Cancer Institute of the U.S National Institutes of Health under award number R01CA307001. A total of $633,819, or 100 percent of the first-year project budget, is financed with U.S federal funds. No non-governmental funds are included in the approved budget.
