The company had a total of 60 million active accounts streaming a total of 73.2 billion hours by the end of 2021, nearly double the hours streamed before the pandemic in 2019. 

Content publishers can use Roku’s streaming platform to build and monetise large audiences. The company provides advertisers with tools to engage consumers.

In 2021, the company expanded its original content under the brand Roku Originals and launched its first feature film.

Anthony Wood, who invented the digital video recorder (DVR) and founded ReplayTV, established Roku in 2002. Roku became a public company on 28 September 2017. The company’s stock is listed at Nasdaq under the ticker symbol ROKU.
