Matterport Inc. Company profile
Matterport Inc. (MTTR) is a technology company that provides digitisation and datafication of the built world. Founded in 2011 and based in Sunnyvale, California, the company offers software, spatial data-driven data science and 3D capture technology for digitising, accessing and managing buildings, spaces and places online.
Using spatial data generated via various digital capture devices, the company’s technological platform can create “digital twins” of existing buildings and spaces, giving customers information and insights that were previously unavailable.
The company has developed a 3D reconstruction solution based on machine learning and an AI-driven software engine. The software, dubbed Cortex, can construct a photorealistic, three-dimensional virtual depiction of a building’s whole structure, including its contents, equipment and furnishings.
The final outcome is a realistic and dynamic duplicate of the physical place that can be viewed, examined and changed from any device, including smartphones, using a web browser.
Retailers, real estate agencies, property developers and insurance companies can use Matterport’s technology. Large retailers use its technology to remotely manage thousands of store locations; real estate agencies can provide virtual open houses for hundreds of properties and thousands of visitors at the same time; property developers can track an entire construction process; and insurance companies can more precisely document and evaluate claims and underwriting assessments.
As of December 2021, the company had 503,000 subscribers in more than 170 countries.
Matterport Inc became a public company in July following its merger with Gores Holdings VI, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) sponsored by an affiliate of The Gores Group, LLC.
The company’s stock began trading on the Nasdaq on 23 July 2021 under the ticker symbol MTTR.
