Oct 1 (Reuters) - Former Manhattan federal prosecutor Joon Kim is joining Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz from rival New York law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, a Wachtell spokesperson said on Thursday.
Kim joined Cleary in 2018 from the US attorney's office in Manhattan, where he was the deputy US attorney under Preet Bharara. Bharara was fired by President Donald Trump during his first term in 2017, and Kim was appointed acting US attorney
While at Cleary, New York Attorney General Letitia James tapped Kim to lead an investigation into then-New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. The investigation found that Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women in violation of state and federal law, and created a climate of fear within his office
He has also represented clients such as Nissan Motor Co Ltd
Wachtell in a statement described Kim as a top litigator and corporate adviser who would bolster the firm's practice
The prominent New York firm, known for its M&A and disputes work, lost six partners and a member of its leadership team in July when top litigator William Savitt left for rival Gibson, Dunn & Crutche with a group
Cleary in a statement said thanks to Kim for his contributions
