German union vows furious response in VW labour dispute, strikes possible next year
HANOVER, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Germany's top industrial union, IG Metall, vowed to escalate its dispute with Volkswagen at the turn of the year - when a strike truce expires - over the German carmaker's intensified cost-cutting drive, a union representative said on Wednesday.
"We are very disappointed," IG Metall's Thorsten Groeger said in Hanover, brandishing a letter that he said contained notice of the company's termination of various wage agreements.
Groeger said he held Volkswagen's management responsible for the tough dispute to come, with strikes possible from January 1.
