UK's Healey poised to tax banks in budget, the Guardian says

By Reuters News

- British finance minister John Healey is poised to tax banks in his budget later this month to keep deficit-reduction plans on track after the impact of the Iran war on the country's public finances, the Guardian reported on Thursday.

The newspaper said Healey had decided to tap the financial sector for additional revenue to help offset higher government borrowing costs.

He is due to deliver his first budget on October 28.
