Treasury yields fall as traders seek safety

By Reuters News

- US Treasury yields fell on Thursday as stock market jitters pushed investors back into US government bonds.

The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield fell 6 basis points to 5.08%, moving away from a 24-year peak of 5.365% hit earlier this month.

The US 2-year yield fell 5 bps to 4.78%. ,

The bid for Treasuries came as worries about tech stocks left traders trying to identify safer corners of the market, even as the safe-haven properties of government bonds have been called into question recently given high debt loads by major economies including the US.

France's 10-year bond yield rose above its US equivalent meanwhile for the first time since 2013 in the latest sign of the shifts taking place in major bond markets.

Nasdaq 100 futures fell 1.75% weighed down by Tesla which reported third quarter earnings after hours on Thursday, and European stocks also fell. .STOXX
