TECH, CHIPS RALLY, DAY AFTER SHARP SELLOFF

The Nasdaq .IXIC and S&P 500 .SPX are more than 1% higher each on Friday, with technology shares leading gains a day after stocks sold off sharply and the Nasdaq confirmed it's in a correction.

S&P 500 technology .SPLRCT is up more than 2%, while an index of semiconductors .SOX is more than 5% higher.

Tuesday's US midterm elections, in which Democrats won control of Congress and key governor positions across the country, raised concerns about tougher AI regulations ahead and drove down shares of data centers, chipmakers and other AI-related stocks.

Sentiment dampened somewhat following a report showing stronger-than-expected job gains last month. It boosted expectations for an interest rate hike in December.

The Dow .DJI is barely higher on Friday, while all three major US stock indexes remain on track for losses for the week.
