EUROPE BEFORE THE BELL: ELEVATED OIL PRICES, RIOTING LEAVE FUTURES IN THE RED

European equity futures are trading a little lower on Friday, as Brent crude trades close to $108 per barrel, while widespread protests across France are heaping more pressure on President Macron as he battles with a deteriorating fiscal picture before next year's election.

Oil benchmarks are slightly lower on Monday, but a late spike to $110 per barrel after the European close on Friday has left Brent crude a couple of bucks above its level at the end of the European trading week.

That move is keeping the region's stocks on the back foot on Monday.

Euro STOXX 50 futures are down 0.4%, with futures on the DAX and FTSE down about 0.3%.

Futures on France's CAC 40 are down about 0.4% after weekend protests over high prices and declining public services have led to thousands of arrests.

"With France already facing a difficult fiscal backdrop and the 2027 election approaching, the weekend adds another layer of political risk for markets," said Deutsche Bank global head of macro research Jim Reid in an email.

Asia-Pac markets .MISX00000PUS were relatively calm overnight, while US futures are pointing towards a rebound after a late selloff on Friday.
