ECONOMY

Italy on Friday raised its economic growth forecasts and said the 2026 budget deficit would fall inside the European Union's limit for the first time in seven years, only to rise again from 2027.

Italy says it has no candidate for ECB chief and calls for clarity over Christine Lagarde's future intentions.

COMPANIES

INTESA SANPAOLO ISP.MI

Intesa Sanpaolo raised its takeover offer for Monte dei Paschi di Siena BMPS.MI on Saturday, saying it would pay shareholders a further €800 million ($900 million) in cash if they reject MPS's counter plan.

WEBUILD WBD.MI

The builder said on Friday it had confirmed a price offer of €4.5 euros in cash for each Trevi share in its bid for the rival engineering and construction group.

GENERALI GASI.MI

Generali Italia CEO Giancarlo Fancel tells Il Sole 24 Ore on Saturday that any tie-up involving MPS and UniCredit would likely serve different customer segments rather than directly compete with Generali's network. Fancel also dismissed concerns that Intesa's bid for MPS could disrupt the insurance sector, saying Generali aimed to widen its lead as Italy's top insurer.
