Indonesia's PLN, independent power producers to consume more coal, LNG in 2027, official says
JAKARTA, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Indonesia's state utility Perusahaan Listrik Negara and its independent power suppliers are expected to consume 173.83 million metric tons of coal in 2027, the head of its subsidiary PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia said on Tuesday.
This compared to around 150 million tons of coal consumption expected this year, said Rakhmad Dewanto, chief executive PLN Energi Primer, which is in charge of procuring the fuel for PLN group
PLN will also need 120 cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) next year, on top of its piped gas supply, Dewanto said, rising from around 108 LNG cargoes required this year
The supply of around 90 cargoes of LNG has been secured for next year, while PLN is coordinating with the government and upstream regulator SKK Migas to secure the remainder, he said
"We have identified where the potential supply will come from to close the gap," Dewanto said on the sidelines of an industry conference
Indonesia last month diverted some of its piped gas supply intended for Singapore due to higher domestic demand
It is also tweaking its domestic market obligation rule for coal to guarantee supplies for domestic power plants
