Bankinter Q3 net profit rises 9% year-on-year backed by higher lending income

By Reuters News

- Spain's Bankinter BKT.MC on Thursday said its third-quarter net profit rose 9% from the same period in 2025, helped by a rise in lending income and higher loans, supported by solid economic growth.

Spanish banks are mainly retail lenders that benefit from higher costs of loans tied mostly to variable rates, though this is starting to be partially offset by a rise in deposit costs.

  • The country's fifth-largest bank by market value reported a net profit of €295 million ($331.7 million) in the July-September period, in line with forecasts from analysts polled by Reuters.

  • As banks try to lift non-core banking revenues, net fees and commissions rose 7% year-on-year in the quarter but fell 11% from the previous quarter, which included a one-off of €23 million from an alternative investment.

  • Net interest income (NII), earnings on loans minus deposit costs, rose 6% year-on-year in the third quarter to €602 million, broadly in line with analysts' expectations of €601 million. Higher interest rates have supported a repricing in the loan book.

  • NII rose just 2% from the previous quarter.
