Australian top grocer Woolworths logs 4.7% rise in first-quarter sales

By Reuters News

- Woolworths Group WOW.AX on Wednesday posted a 4.7% rise in sales for the first quarter as price reductions, product range overhauls and a successful Disney Ooshies collectibles campaign supported resilient growth at its mainstay Australian Food division.

Australia's largest supermarket chain reported group sales of A$19.35 billion ($13.60 billion) for the 14 weeks ended October 4, compared to A$18.48 billion in the prior year.

That was in line with Visible Alpha's consensus estimate of A$19.34 billion.
