Australia shares expected to fall at open, NZ gains

- Australian shares were poised to open lower on Wednesday, likely pressured by weakness in mining and energy stocks, while investors awaited domestic inflation data due later in the day.

The local share price index futures fell 0.2%, a 52.3-point premium to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index .AXJO close. The benchmark had closed up 0.3% in the previous session.

Across the Tasman Sea, New Zealand's benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index .NZ50 rose 0.1% in early trade.
