T-Mobile Company profile
T-Mobile US, Inc. (TMUS) is an American national wireless service provider, delivering mobile communications services in the US, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, the company was founded in 1994, and formerly owned by German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom AG.
T-Mobile US was formed after the merger of T-Mobile USA and MetroPCS Communications. As per the terms of the merger, Deutsche Telekom received shares of common stock, representing a majority ownership interest in T-Mobile, in exchange for its transfer of all of T-Mobile USA’s common stock. The merged entity, now called T-Mobile US, began trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol TMUS in April 2013.
As of the end of Q4 2021, T-Mobile posted record‑high customer additions, gaining 1.2 million postpaid accounts, bringing the 2021 total to 5.5 million new postpaid customers. It has emerged as the second-largest wireless company in the US post its merger with Sprint Corporation in 2020 and delivers Ultra Capacity 5G that covers over 210 million people nationwide.
At present, T-Mobile US provides services through its subsidiaries and operates via flagship brands, T-Mobile, ‘Metro by T-Mobile’ and Sprint. It provides voice and data services to 108.7 million customers in the postpaid, prepaid and wholesale markets, T-Mobile also offers an array of wireless devices and accessories that include smartphones, wearables, tablets and other communication devices.
With the rapid adoption and emergence of 5G, T‑Mobile is standing out as America's largest and now most awarded 5G network. It provides strong competition to Verizon Communications (VZ) and AT&T (T).
