Founded in the late 1990s, the group is strongly oriented towards the online bookmaking and mobile staking on regulated markets. The PPB group separates their activities into four core segments: the online division, comprised of Betfair and Paddy Power sports betting operators; the retail division, that runs 600+ Paddy Power betting shops across the UK and Ireland; the Australia division, in charge of Australia's largest online bookmaker Sportsbet, and the US division, comprised of a horse racing TV channel and an online betting network TVG, which is active in over 35 states. Additionally, the company has an online casino and a horse racing betting exchange in New Jersey, US.

The PPB share price reached its all-time high on 1 February 2016, trading at £107.70.
