The Baillie Gifford Japan Trust (BGFD) is the longest existing Japanese investment trust established in 1981 and headquartered in Edinburg, Scotland. It invests exclusively in Japan and is managed by Baillie Gifford & Co Limited, the Edinburgh-based investment management partnership. The BGFD share price is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a part of the FTSE 250 Index.
The business, in spite of its primary specialisation in small and medium-sized companies, is considered as a general trust as it is not a pure small capital specialist. In November 2000, the Trust had a 5:1 stock split in order to facilitate liquidity in its shares.
