Dow Jones is a global financial information and publishing company that owns some of the best-known names in business media and data. It is owned by News Corp, Rupert Murdoch's news, book publishing and radio arm.

In its own words, this is a company that grew from a 'niche news agency in an obscure Wall Street basement' to become 'a worldwide news and information powerhouse'. That news agency survives today, as one of the best-known of the wire services, as does the company's flagship publication, The Wall Street Journal. Other top brands in the Dow Jones stable include Factiva, the global business database, and Barron's, which describes itself as America's premier financial magazine and was founded by Clarence Barron, who acquired Dow Jones in 1902. His successors in the Bancroft family controlled Dow Jones until the Murdoch takeover in 2007.
