Today's most rubbish story comes from the realm of cryptocurrencies - well which rubbish stories aren't these days? Apparently, a British refuse company is to allow its customers to pay for its services with bitcoin and other virtual currencies.
BusinessWaste.co.uk, based in York, deals with commercial waste - collecting from companies and institutions, which it says can now pay for their rubbish collections using bitcoin or rivals such as litecoin and etherium.
Not a publicity stunt
"It's not a publicity stunt," says BusinessWaste.co.uk. "Ordinary people are now both mining and trading virtual currencies and they're keen to use them to purchase goods and services."
Are they though? Most seem keener to keep watching them move ridiculously higher in value - hoping they'll have enough sense to flog them before the bubble goes pop.
Bitcoin has prompted much criticism from those expecting the bubble to burst any moment, having increased by 1,775% over the course of this year to its current level just below $19,000.
So, nice try BusinessWaste.co.uk. Maybe it’s not a publicity stunt, but if the bitcoin bubble bursts, you might find that what you are being paid in is rubbish too.
