Shares in Playtech soared in early morning trading today following the announcement that Aristocrat was to acquire the UK-based gambling software developer.
Shares in Playtech had risen almost 57% in earl trading to 673.34p.
This sector has seen much in the way of M&A activity in recent weeks and market watchers are expectant of further consolidation in the sector.
Gambling sector acquisitions
In September, online casino 888 Holdings confirmed its purchase of William Hill. Today, 888 saw its shares rise 4.46% in morning trading to 415.72p – perhaps indicating further consolidation ahead.
Last month also saw US gambling operator Draft Kings offer $22.4bn (£16.3bn) for UK-based gambling firm Entain.
This came after MGM had also made an approach in January but was rebuffed at $11bn (£8bn) by Entain, which considered the valuation to be too low.
