Meta Platforms Inc. Company profile
Meta Platforms Inc (FB), formerly known as Facebook Inc, is a global social media and technology company based in the US. The company creates social networking programs and virtual and augmented reality solutions that allow users to communicate and share through mobile devices, PCs, and other platforms.
The company was founded on 4 February 2004, by Mark Elliot Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz, Chris R. Hughes and Eduardo P. Saverin.
Headquartered in Menlo Park, California, Meta has two main business segments: Family of Apps (FoA) and Facebook Reality Labs (FRL). FoA consists of the Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp social media apps.
Facebook allows people to connect, share and communicate on mobile devices and home computers. Instagram is a photo- and video-sharing application that Meta acquired in April 2012, a month before the company’s shares first traded on Nasdaq on 18 May. Instagram users can also use private messaging and shop from businesses and creators.
Messenger is a cross-platform and cross-device messaging app that allows users to interact with friends, family, groups and enterprises. On 19 February 2014, Meta (then Facebook) acquired WhatsApp, a messaging app used to communicate and transact with people worldwide.
On 28 October 2021, Facebook rebranded as Meta, as the tech giant shifted its attention to the metaverse – the virtual reality world that allows users to interact with objects and people, play games, and have experiences with AR and VR technology.
