A new poll from research firm D-CYFOR shows awareness of bitcoin has reached an all-time high.
However, the results of the poll carried out this month suggest the tide may have turned for the crypto as the vast majority of respondents were decidedly bearish on bitcoin´s outlook.
The D-CYFOR poll found that 91% of the UK general public had now heard of bitcoin, an 11% increase since the same question was posed in November.
Nevertheless, some 74% of people said they would not invest in bitcoin, a 16% increase since the November poll.
Just 16% of the public said they had already invested or would invest in bitcoin, 6% down from November.
More tellingly, 61% of those interviewed in the latest poll said they believed bitcoin would either fall in value over the next six months or collapse entirely and be worthless.
This was a very significant increase from November when only 47% of the public believed the crypto would decrease in value or collapse entirely over the next six months.
Some 48% of those already invested or who are thinking of investing in bitcoin said they were not interested in any other crypto. Of those that are, the top choices were ethereum (15%), bitcoin cash (13%), litecoin (7%), ripple (7%) and Cardano (3%).
Of those already invested in bitcoin, some 30% claimed to have not done any research into the crypto, though admitted to being influenced by stories in the media.
