UniCredit Group (UCG) provides commercial banking services on a worldwide scale. Founded in 1870, the company's global headquarters are located in Milan, Italy. UniCredit has an international reach and one of the highest market shares in the European region: it caters to 25 million clients across 14 core markets and another 18 countries in Western, Central and Eastern Europe; runs more than 9,400 branches: and employs over 159,000 people. The bank's products include asset management, business loan, consumer credit, investment banking, life insurance, mortgages, etc. UniCredit Group is a component of the Euro Stoxx 50 stock market index. The group′s history tracks back to the establishment of a public institute named Rolo Banca in Bologna in 1473. Its main task was to provide secured loans. UniCredit Group was the outcome of the 1998 merger of the Italian banking institutions Credito Italiano (including Rolo Banca) and Unicredito. On 1 April 1991, the company went public, announcing its UniCredit Group share price for the first time.
The group was called a Leader in Private Banking and Wealth Management by Euromoney in 2019. Also this year, UniCredit was recognised as the Best Private Bank in Central and Eastern Europe by the Global Finance magazine. The winners, as stated by the magazine, are the banks with the best-proven service of the specific needs of high-net-worth individuals as they seek to enhance, preserve and pass on their wealth.
The UniCredit Group had previously sponsored various sports activities, such as tennis tournaments Vienna Open and Czech Open; as well as golf tournaments Austrian Open and Ladies German Open. Until 2018, UniCredit was one of the UEFA Champions League's main sponsors.
