The company was founded as Austria Mikro Systeme (AMS) in 1981. Eight years later, its first overseas sales office opened in San Jose in California’s Silicon Valley. The following years saw further international expansion, and then in 2004 austriamicrosystems AG was listed on the SWX Swiss Exchange in Zurich.
