Steem is a blockchain-based social media network that rewards users of its platform. Similar to other social media platforms, users are able to follow other creators, as well as share, comment on and upvote content.
Join Capital.com now to always stay up-to-date with the latest STEEM coin price in USD.
Founded by Dan Larimer and Ned Scott, the Steem network went live on 24 March 2016, and Steemit launched in July 2016. The platform was developed to help members of the community monetise their digital content without the need for advertising or selling of user data that is commonplace among social media sites.
Steemit aims to promote content that provides users with value, be it a video, meme, or blog post. Cryptocurrency rewards scale in line with post popularity and engagement – posts that are being actively shared, upvoted or discussed by the community will earn significantly more than those that are not. Rewards are distributed in STEEM coin, of which there are approximately 375,000,000 in circulation.
With Capital.com’s comprehensive live STEEM price chart, you can not only quickly view the current STEEM/USD rate, but also trace the coin’s price in historic terms.
The token has spent the majority of its life trading in the sub-$1 range, but there have been several spikes in the STEEM/dollar price over the last few years. On 1 July 2016, the cryptocurrency was priced at $0.23. But less than three weeks later, on 19 July 2016, STEEM hit a high of $4.45, an increase of more than 2000%. This sharp rise was followed by a sudden crash back to the $0.20 level, where the token stayed until the cryptocurrency boom in late 2017. STEEM coin then hit a new high of $8.57 on 3 January 2018, before quickly dropping to $1.5 by 2 April 2018. It hiked up to $4.3 in less than a month only to shed most of its value, trading below $1 until April 2021. After reaching $1.44 on 11 April, the coin has been fluctuating dramatically, and on 25 April, it traded at $0.85.
