Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) is an American energy company, formed in 1997 as a result of a merger between MESA Inc. and the Parker & Parsley Petroleum Company. The company is engaged in the exploration and production of oil and gas. Pioneer primarily develops the Spraberry/Wolfcamp and the Eagle Ford Shale oil plays, located in Texas. Pioneer is one of the main producers of natural gas from gas fields based in Texas and southeastern Colorado. The company employs approximately 3,600 staff members and operates over 20,000 horizontal drilling locations.
