The base currency - ETC. The counter currency - USD. The ETC to USD is the Ethereum Classic cryptocurrency/US dollar pair. In the ETC/USD pair a traditional (fiat) currency -USD - is quoted against a cryptocurrency - ETC. Ethereum Classic was created after the DAO hack attack in June 2016. It caused an ideological split of the original Ethereum into Ethereum and Ethereum Classic. Both are focused on smart contracts and decentralised application development. Ethereum Classic functions on the same protocol as that of Ethereum. The Ethereum Classic coin is called ‘Classic ether’.
