Rocket Lab USA, Inc. Company profile
Rocket Lab USA is a space exploration and infrastructure solutions company. The firm provides space launch services, spacecraft components, satellites, and in-orbit management solutions. Rocket Lab is listed on the Nasdaq under the tickers RKLB and RKLBW.
The space company was originally founded in New Zealand in 2006. It was incorporated in the US as Rocket Lab USA in 2013. The firm went public in August 2021 via a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) merger with Vector Acquisition Corporation. Rocket Lab USA is headquartered in Long Beach, California, US.
Rocket Lab provides client small satellites with access to space orbits with Electron, its fully carbon-composite rocket powered by 3D-printed engines.
The company has sent more than 100 satellites into space for commercial and government customers, including the US Department of Defense, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Blacksky Holdings and Canon, according to its SPAC prospectus.
The company operates a private launch complex located in Mahia, New Zealand, which is supported by a bi-lateral treaty between the US and New Zealand governments enabling the company to use US launch and spacecraft technology for launches.
Rocket Lab’s launch complex in New Zealand is capable of supporting up to 120 missions every year, according to the company. It also has access to a launch pad at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, US.
Rocket Lab is also developing its Neutron launch vehicle, which will be an advanced 8-ton payload launch vehicle tailored for large constellation deployments, interplanetary missions and human spaceflight.
The company has expanded from launch services to deliver spacecraft-as-a-service from low Earth orbit constellations to deep space and interplanetary missions for government and commercial customers.
