Oatly is the Swedish food brand that manufactures alternatives to dairy products from oats. Founded in the 1990s, the company is headquartered in Malmö and operates a production development centre in Landskrona. 

Oatly is the world’s largest oat milk company. One litre of Oatly product consumed instead of cow’s milk results in 80% less greenhouse gas emissions, requires 60% less energy consumption and reduces land usage by 79%, according to the company’s SEC filing. 

The company has an international presence in more than 20 markets, including Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States and China. As of 31 December 2020, Oatly offered dozens of product lines to around 60,000 retail stores and 32,000 coffee shops. Oatly partners with independent coffee shops, as well as big franchises and retailers, including Starbucks, Tesco and Target. 

As of 31 March 2021, Oatly operates four fully functioning factories with another three under construction. The company is on a mission to transition towards a resilient and sustainable food system, which empowers people to choose solutions that improve their lives and protect the future of the planet for future generations.

According to the company’s SEC filing, Oatly reported revenue of $421.4m for 2020 - 106.5% higher than $204.0m in 2019. Growth outpaced the company’s year-to-year growth of 72.9% in 2019. The company’s gross profit was $129.2m, representing a margin of 30.7%. 

In 2020, Oatly raised $200m in an investment round led by Blackstone Group and celebrities including Natalie Portman, Oprah Winfrey and Jay Z. 

Oatly Group AB floated on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker symbol OTLY on 19 May, 2021. The Oatly IPO priced 84.4 million American depositary shares at $17 a share, giving it an implied valuation of $10bn and raising $1.4bn.
