TotalEnergies is expanding its cooperation with national oil and gas companies in Malaysia, Angola and India to accelerate methane emissions reduction, highlighting its partnerships with PETRONAS, SONANGOL and Oil India Limited (OIL) during a meeting of Oil and Gas Decarbonisation Charter (OGDC) member companies in Abu Dhabi.

In Malaysia, TotalEnergies has signed a collaboration agreement with PETRONAS, the Japan Organisation for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) and JGC Corporation to support the development of the Southeast Asia Methane Emissions Technology Evaluation Center (SEA METEC). Led by PETRONAS and based in Malaysia, the regional center will evaluate technologies for measuring and monitoring methane emissions across Southeast Asia.

TotalEnergies will contribute expertise gained through more than 10 years of operating its TADI (TotalEnergies Anomalies Detection Initiative) center, Europe's only facility dedicated to evaluating methane detection and quantification technologies. The initiative aims to strengthen knowledge sharing and harmonise measurement methodologies to help companies better detect, quantify and reduce emissions.

In Angola, TotalEnergies has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SONANGOL to strengthen technical cooperation on methane emissions reduction and decarbonisation. Building on experience gained through AUSEA technology, the agreement covers emissions detection, measurement, monitoring and reduction, alongside the exchange of technical expertise and best practices.

The partnership will also explore solutions to reduce methane emissions and flaring, improve energy efficiency, support facility electrification and advance carbon management. Additional areas include greenhouse gas reporting, technical training and potential financing opportunities through initiatives such as the World Bank's Global Flaring and Methane Reduction (GFMR) Fund.

In India, TotalEnergies and Oil India Limited are expanding their field collaboration following a successful initial AUSEA methane detection campaign across more than 20 OIL-operated sites in Assam. The first month-long campaign provided emissions data to support reporting and demonstrated the technology's ability to detect and quantify methane across different operating conditions. A second campaign, also planned for one month, will extend monitoring to additional sites.

“Our cooperation with PETRONAS in Malaysia, SONANGOL in Angola and OIL in India illustrates TotalEnergies' commitment to the OGDC and the momentum it has created among international and national companies. I am convinced that by sharing technologies, expertise and best practices, we can accelerate concrete action and contribute to our common ambition of achieving near-zero upstream methane emissions by 2030,” said Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies.
