SNG: Oman: Fuel purchases near border pumps limited to 30l
By Staff Writer
Muscat – Fuel purchases will be temporarily capped at 30 litres per transaction at filling stations within 50km of Oman’s border crossings following a surge in demand that has rapidly depleted stocks at some outlets.
The National Subsidy Committee approved the measure to maintain supplies for more consumers and help affected stations continue operating without disruption.
Nasra bint Sultan Al Habsi, Director General of Commerce at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said increased demand at certain stations had prompted the temporary controls.
She stressed that the restriction applied only to stations within the designated 50km radius and did not cover all filling stations across Oman.
Implementation is being coordinated with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, OQ and petroleum marketing companies to maintain fuel availability at affected outlets.
Border stations often attract motorists from neighbouring countries seeking to benefit from differences in fuel prices. In the UAE, prices fluctuate in line with global oil markets. EPlus 91 petrol was priced at AED4.21 per litre in October, while Special 95 cost AED4.28.
The UAE’s fuel prices have risen sharply this year amid disruption to regional oil supplies and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, with crude prices exceeding US$100 a barrel.
