Neo Strengthens Tamper Protection for AI Agents to Keep Policies in Effect

By GlobeNewswire

BOSTON, Oct. 29, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Neo, the Agentic Software Control company, today announced Tamper Protection for AI Agents, a capability designed to keep Neo’s security policies in force when a user or an AI agent tries to disable, remove, or work around them. Its first protection prevents anyone from deleting or altering the hooks Neo installs in Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Codex, Cursor, and Copilot, so the policies organizations set to manage AI risk stay in effect.

As AI agents gain more autonomy on the endpoint, they increasingly have the access to change the very controls meant to govern them. Agents edit configuration files, reset settings, and clean up files they decide they don’t need, and the people using them can do the same when a control gets in the way. A security control that can be switched off by the user or agent it governs, on purpose or by mistake, offers little protection. Tamper Protection for AI Agents addresses that gap by keeping Neo’s enforcement out of reach of the users and agents it applies to.

Hooks are the first focus. Hooks are how security tools see what an AI agent is about to do and decide whether it happens, before a file is read, a command runs, or a tool is called. But a hook is configuration on the device, and anyone with write access to it can remove it. Hooks installed only through setup scripts or periodic mobile device management (MDM) updates can stay disabled until the next update, because no local process is watching them. One developer racing a deadline can switch off key security controls, and security teams may never know a policy stopped working. Neo’s sensor stays on the device after its hooks are installed, recording a fingerprint of each one and preventing any change to it.

Tamper Protection for AI Agents applies only to Neo’s own enforcement. Hooks written by customers’ teams and hooks from other security vendors are left untouched. It runs in the existing Neo sensor, with nothing new for customers to deploy.

“A security policy can’t be optional for the person or agent it governs,” said Nick Warner, CEO and Co-Founder of Neo. “As agents take on more work, they also gain the access to change their own guardrails. Organizations set policies for a reason, and governance is what makes it safe to adopt AI quickly. Whether a developer tries to get around a restriction or an agent overwrites a setting while finishing a task, Neo prevents that tampering, so the decision stays with the security team.”
