THE IPO QUEUE STARTS LOOKING BEYOND WALL STREET
The race to cash out private investments is accelerating, but the next wave of stock market debuts may not belong exclusively to the United States.
A record 85% of venture capital and private equity investors plan to exit at least one portfolio company over the next 12 months, according to HSBC's Funding the Future Survey, suggesting investors are becoming increasingly confident that public markets are ready to absorb new listings again.
The US remains the preferred venue for going public thanks to its deep capital pools and track record of supporting high-growth technology companies. But investors are becoming increasingly open to alternatives, with preference for US listings falling to 57% from 79% in July, while interest in Asia and EMEA climbed to 18% each.
That suggests founders weighing an IPO are no longer viewing New York as the only credible destination. As regional exchanges compete to attract fast-growing technology firms and local investor bases deepen, companies are finding more options closer to home.
The stakes extend beyond the venue of individual IPOs. A shift in listing preferences could influence which financial centers capture the fees, trading activity and attention generated by the next wave of public offerings.
Separately, the survey showed that the strongest IPO window was reserved for AI firms, with nearly two-thirds of investors expecting AI companies to drive IPO exits over the coming year.
At a time when investors remain selective, businesses tied to the AI boom continue to command the most attention, making them the most likely candidates to tap public markets.
